Dram Review: Glenfarclas 15 year old

I tasted this dram at the Highlander Inn hotel in Craigellachie. We went because I’d heard about the quality of the whisky bar on whisky cast, and they do have a great collection. The only problem was that we had the car and were staying in Aberlour so only time for 1 dram.

I chose this 15 year old Glenfarclas as I was in a “Speyside mood” and Glenfarclas is very competitively priced when it comes to speysiders.

Here are the dramstats:

  • ABV 46%
  • £41
  • Age 15

Nose: Sherried, mild Christmas cake, madeira, sultana, oloroso, cough mixture.

Palate: Madeira cake, sultanas and light sherry, oloroso, baked fig rolls

Finish: Cake notes, slightly nutty, raisins and oloroso. Creamy with some tingly oak. Treacle toffee and muscavado.

Verdict: It’s excellent and well priced. Glenfarclas really does give bang for your buck and long may it continue.
