With the christmas supermarket deals about to hit the shelves, I thought I would blog about a bargain I picked up last christmas.
Part of the Sainsbury’s taste the difference range, Dun Liere is an 8 year old irish whisky distilled at Cooley. I was aware of it, because Jim Murray awarded it Irish whisky of the year in 2010 and 2011. Last Christmas, as part of a christmas deal Sainsbury’s were selling it for £15!
How could I resist? Here are the dramstats:
- ABV 40%
- Price paid £15
- Age 8yo
Nose: Honey, vanilla, cinnamon, custard creams, lemon pith, orange note.
Palate: Honey, vanilla, juicy barley, hob nobs, inside of a malteaser (after the chocolate has been sucked off)
Finish: Faint cinnamon, drying oak, sweet vanilla.
Verdict: This is an excellent supermarket dram and is better quality than many of the famous single malts and other brands you’ll find on a supermarket shelf. A really decent first dram of the evening. At £15 I would definitely buy it again. Actually I’d spend more, but it’s always worth hanging on for the right price around the christmas season. Happy dramming!
